In the Abbey

The Thrailkill girls are in Kentucky!

First stop: The Abbey of Gethsemani to visit mom's cousin, Brother Paul. 

Joining us were Uncle Greg + 3 energetic cousins and Daddy Andy (grandpa)!

Our lodging:

After a delicious chicken lunch, Brother Paul took us on a hike to see The Statues of Jesus praying in the garden and His disciples sleeping. 

While hiking, it is wise to let another tall person go before you - they walk into the spider webs first!

 

 

Below is one of the 9 lakes that Brother Paul swims in. He is a 73 yr old monk who begins his days at 2:30 am. Prayer begins at 3:15 am and continues on at various times for the rest of the day (8 total), bells ringing at every meeting. After morning prayers, Brother Paul fills his afternoons with swimming, photography, and hiking. He enjoys writing poems and is a canter during prayer. He also works in the cheese and fruitcake business with his fellow brothers.
