Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte July 16, 2013

Today we visited the Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte. We took the metro, RER, and then a taxi to the estate.

First we ate lunch in the small restaurant. They had all sorts of dishes to choose from.

Then we walked through a carriage museum in the stable area.

Once inside the inner courtyard, we got an excellent view of the front of the chateau. It has a small moat with fish around it.

We weren't the only tourists. There were a couple of smaller groups with cute hats and backpacks trailing along...

Outside of Paris and in the countryside, this residence was built by the joined efforts of Architect Louis Le Vau, painter Charles Le Brun, and landscaper André Le Nôtre.

These were the same men who were hired to complete Versailles after Louis XIV saw the splendor of this mansion. One can tell the similarity between the inside of the Versailles palace and Vaux le Vicomte.

Maggie likes the tiny chair near the fireplace.

Maggie also liked their pretty baking tins.

Outside, the grounds were similar to Versailles except on a much smaller scale.

We found out that the fountains are only turned on two Saturdays a month. It looked like they drained this one out.

After a quick look around the gift store, we called a taxi to pick us up. Along the ride the you could see the warm yellow fields of hay.

We took the express metro back home and had a baguette, salami, and goat cheese for dinner.

à plus tard!
